Alex often opened his phone when it made a sound. Sometimes the message was important, but often it was a shop promotion or a game reminder. After each interruption, he had to remember what he had been doing at his desk.

He tried turning off promotional notifications for a week. He kept messages from his family and the reminders he needed for work. At lunch and after work, he opened the other apps himself. He wrote down whether he had missed anything important.

At the end of the week, Alex had fewer interruptions and had not missed an urgent message in his notes. That did not prove everyone should use his settings. It showed that he could choose which alerts deserved his attention and adjust them when his needs changed.
