When an app is free, it is tempting to download it without thinking. But a zero price does not always mean a zero cost. Some apps earn money by showing advertisements. Others encourage users to purchase extra features.

Before installing a new app, Noah now asks himself three questions: Will I actually use it? What permissions does it request? Can I remove my information later? These questions do not tell him whether an app is dangerous, but they help him make a more careful choice.

Recently, Noah deleted several apps he had not opened for months. His phone became less distracting. He realized that his attention was also valuable. A useful free app can be a good deal, but something that constantly interrupts him may cost more than he expects.
