The Repair Café

When Sara’s desk lamp stopped working, she was ready to buy a new one. Then she noticed a poster for a community repair café. Volunteers would help visitors examine broken household items. Sara decided to bring her lamp.

A volunteer checked it and found a loose connection. He explained the problem while another volunteer showed Sara how to handle the lamp safely. They repaired it together. Some other items at the café could not be fixed, and their owners discussed different options.

Sara left with a working lamp and a better understanding of it. The café had not promised to repair everything. Instead, it offered a place to share knowledge and consider alternatives before throwing things away. Sara also met two neighbors she had never spoken to before.
